Groundwork Simulator shipped two patches in three days, and the second one is the one that changes how the game is played: 0.1.2.1 added Creative Mode with a $50 million starting balance and a currency switch. The same patch is also the biggest controller and multiplayer fix list so far.

Both lists are the developer's Steam announcements.

0.1.2.1 (25 October) — Creative Mode and controls

New ways to play

  • Creative Mode starts you with $50,000,000.
  • Currency can be set to USD, EUR or GBP — the numbers are the same, the symbol is not.

Controls and joysticks

  • Single-joystick support, plus separate control profiles per vehicle — the setup that was missing if you fly one machine with a stick and drive another with a wheel.
  • Better controller navigation, walking controls, camera settings and PlayStation button prompts.

Multiplayer

  • Improved joining, reconnecting, vehicle synchronisation and terrain updates.
  • Fixes for material transfers, missing gold, conveyor loading and processing equipment.

Vehicles and machinery

  • Truck handling and trailer towing improved; wheel-loader behaviour and excavator bucket unloading fixed.
  • Water hoses, pumps, winch controls and vehicle attachments fixed.
  • Save/load fixes for bucket contents, machinery placement and worksite objects.

Performance

  • Rendering and memory improvements, including lower texture memory on Low settings.

What is still open, per the developer: multiplayer sync in larger sessions and device-specific controller issues. The next patch is aimed at low FPS on lower-end PCs.

0.1.1 (23 October) — the hotfix

This is the patch that made the game start reliably:

  • Startup fixes and several crash fixes, plus faster startup and save loading.
  • Lower GPU memory use on Low settings.
  • T.16000M joysticks work, with better joystick detection.
  • Multiplayer drill controls and several shared objective tracking issues fixed.
  • Gold Map closing and menu navigation fixed.
  • Spray-painting issues fixed; audio playback improved; menu music volume lowered and mute preferences saved.
  • Controller camera smoother while walking, with sprint enabled by default.
  • Loading-screen flicker fixed.

Known issues at that time: multiplayer sync with 3+ players, some joystick compatibility, and crashes when connecting or disconnecting a PS4, PS5 or Steam Controller.

What to do with this

  1. If the game would not launch, update. 0.1.1 is the startup fix.
  2. If you play with a HOTAS, 0.1.1 added the T.16000M and 0.1.2.1 added the single-stick profile — both matter before you tune anything.
  3. If multiplayer desyncs with four players, that is still open as of 0.1.2.1. The developer says larger sessions are the remaining gap.
  4. If you want to test builds without grinding cash, Creative Mode with $50M is the fastest route.
